Carborundum Print - Bunya Pine
One of my favourite things to do is go for a drive to Maleny and look at the rolling hills and the Bunya Pines. There is a beautiful lookout at Reesville with an added bonus of the Glasshouse Mountains ( I’m working on an etching).
Carborundum is a grit ( think of sand paper). It can be applied with a glue or as a ready made gel. I have been teaching myself how to use it. It is great for providing dark and mid tones in a print.
Anyway, here is my first print. I painted the Bunya based on a photo using carborundum gel. I’m really happy with how it printed. I probably could have left the swirls at the bottom off the plate. In fact, I have removed them and will use the plate again with chine colle.
Etching print plate, Akua Carborundum gel, Akua Intaglio Ink Black and Somerset SATIN 250gsm 100% cotton rag paper.
I’ll continue to play with the carborundum and see what I can do.
I hope you are staying creative 😀 perhaps challenge yourself to learn something new!
