Collagraph printing has endless posibilities!
You start with a cardboard plate (usually some matt board from thr picture framers). You can score into it; take away from it; add to it with cardboard, organic material etc; and add carborudum.
Once you are happy woth your collagraph then it is sealed with shellac (a type of varnish made from beetles, but that's another story). It is then ink and put through an etching press. It can take hours to create a plate. It's one of my favourite ways to print.
I have lots of Noisy Miners (Manorina melanocephala) in my garden. They are very vocal and sociable little birds. And they provide great enetertainment! I worked on this collagraph plate for 6+ hours over a period of a week.
I am working on a series of Australia bird collagraphs at the moment.
